Technical meeting in Meuse: miscanthus in cattle farming

Miscanthus on cattle farms in the Meuse region.

In early December, we organized a technical meeting with Jean-Marie Maire and Stéphane Mésot, both breeders in the Meuse region.

Jean-Marie Maire welcomed us to his farm in Bonnet (55130), where he uses miscanthus as bedding for his dairy cows. He buys the miscanthus from Stéphane Mésot, GAEC du Crépuscule, a neighboring producer.

Discussions with 7 breeders from a 50 km radius focused on :

  • the use of miscanthus as bedding at Mr. Maire's home,
  • the addition of miscanthus to cow rations, implemented on Mr Mésot's farm
  • and miscanthus for direct sale by M. Mésot.

Two very interesting peer-to-peer feedback sessions, with breeders talking to breeders!
