Miscanthus boilers for local authorities: Novabiom supports projects

The number of requests from local authorities is increasing. Their requests mainly concern support for the structuring of boiler projects, in particular the supply of local miscanthus.

These projects often emerge in areas where water quality protection is a major concern. Indeed, the installation of a miscanthus biomass boiler offers an outlet for miscanthus, a very low-input crop that helps protect water quality.

What's our role in these projects? We are facilitators, i.e. we act as a link between the agricultural sector, local authorities and energy providers.

We've been working on these issues for several years, and last year we published a guide to setting up "Miscanthus boilers with high environmental value for local areas". This guide was designed as part of the Mistigation research project, and we are making it available to interested local authorities.

Last spring, for example, the Sablons community of communes took a major step forward with the planting of 16 hectares of miscanthus in the commune's water catchment area. A contract has been signed between the farmers and the community to supply a boiler room that will serve the gymnasium and swimming pool. The additional hectares will be planted in the spring of 2026.
